The Banyan Tree Yangshuo Resort is located within Yangshuo’s Fu Li county, nestled between two hills and facing Guilin’s famous Li River. AECOM worked on the resort master-planning, landscape architecture and environmental design. Our design objectives were to create a memorable destination that is able to leverage on the existing site conditions and to mitigate the inherent challenges. One of the key feature is to create a dramatic arrival experience from entrance driveway to the lobby drop-off.

 

The resort architecture is influenced by the local “Hui” style. Our team took this inspiration and translated into the iconic landscape elements. Our team studied the existing flora and fauna on site for preservation recommendation and provided a strategy of retaining the existing riverside Phoenix-tail bamboos that is ubiquitous to Li River banks. The result was a local planting palette that is both easy for maintenance and sustainable at the same time.
